Monday - Write your own sonnet!
Tuesday -
Wednesday - Poetry Test
Thursday - Farewell Zoom calls
Have a great summer, everyone. I'm sorry our time was cut short this year, but I look forward to seeing your faces next year at Pope. Don't hesitate to come by and say hi, even if you don't end up in my class next year. Don't forget the Summer reading!
- Try your hand at the ages-old art form of the sonnet. Your poem should:
- be 14 lines long
- follow a specific rhyme scheme, either:
- English/Shakespearian - abab cdcd efef gg OR
- Italian/Petrarchan - abba abba cde cde
- have a thought pattern. Usually in English sonnets, the octave sets up an idea or situation, then the sestet answers it in some way.
- be in iambic pentameter
- What should you write about? It's up to you, but sonnets are often lyric poems, having to do with love and relationships.
- As an alternative to a lyric poem, you could emulate Shakespeare by telling the story of a film or novel that you know well in the form of a Sonnet, as Shakespeare did with the Prologue to Romeo & Juliet. Follow that pattern, if you'd like, and tell the story of Zootopia or The Hunger Games in the form of a sonnet. It's up to you.
- This will count as a Formative Assessment, so it will go in the "Quizzes" category. If you need to bring that category up, this is a great opportunity.
- It is due by Friday.
Tuesday -

- Take today to continue to write your sonnet or study for the test tomorrow.
Wednesday - Poetry Test
- MUY IMPORTANTE: When you have to type your answers for the matching section, ONLY type the letter or letters of the answer. For ex., if you want to choose "bd. onomatopeioa" only type bd or BD -- no periods, no weird spaces, no full word. If you do that, I cannot even view what you put; it will just mark you wrong!
